A MAN is in hospital after he was attacked with either a bottle or a glass at a Hartlepool nightclub.
Police are appealing for information and any witnesses after the man, from County Durham, was attacked while in the town for a night out.
He was with family and friends in the 42nd Street nightclub at about 12.30am on Sunday, when police believe some sort of altercation took place.
As a result, the man, in his early thirties, was attacked by someone wielding a bottle or glass, and suffered serious injuries to his face.
He has undergone treatment in the Univeristy Hospital of Hartlepool.
Police are waiting to interview him further about the incident, which is believed to have started inside the nightclub, but then spilled outside.
Detective Sergeant Matt Mason, from Hartlepool CID, said: "This was a vicious attack which has left a man visiting Hartlepool for a night out with serious injuries.
"I would urge anyone in the club, and there were hundreds of people there, to contact me in confidence in a bid to help police establish what happened."
Anyone with any information is asked to contact Hartlepool police on (01642) 302133 or 302138, or call Crimestoppers free and in confidence on 0800 555 111.
