PARENTS are going back to school to pick up tips from police officers in an attempt to protect their children from potential dangers.
Following successful sessions for children at Grindon Infants and St Cuthbert's Primary schools, in Sunderland, PCs Steve Sheard and Graham Barnes are holding nightclasses for parents at the city's South Hylton Primary School.
They aim to teach them about issues affecting their children, covering topics from bullying to road safety.
PC Sheard said: "I am receiving good feedback from staff and parents I speak to while I patrol around the schools.
"I am now approached by children who are out and about with their parents or friends, who are confident enough to say hello.
"We hope to develop this further and look at the older generation's perception of youth through a series of presentations to parents.
"The sessions will cover internet safety, paedophiles, dangerous weapons and police.
"We hope to develop our relationships with the young people to help build foundations for the future, increasing awareness and social responsibilities."
