THE Mayor of Sedgefield borough has nominated a Ferryhill community group to receive a £5,000 windfall.
The Ferryhill Community Partnership is made up of a broad mix of public, private, voluntary and community organisations, which work for the benefit of the town and the whole community.
In conjunction with the Guardian Awards 2003 and sponsors Sainsbury's, Mayor David Newell looked for an eligible social welfare charity to receive his vote.
Preliminary judging will take place in August, with final judging the following month, and all five winners will be announced at a ceremony in October.
Each winner will receive £5,000, publicity in the Guardian newspaper and a website designed free of charge by smartchange.org
