A man in his 70s lost cash after a burglar sneaked into his home through an unlocked door.
The crook targeted the home, in Heatherway, on the evening of Tuesday, April 22. He made a search of the whole house and stole cash that had been left in cupboards. Anyone with information is asked to call PC Chris Watson, of Stanley police, on (01207) 232144.
BAG SNATCH: A 72-year-old woman is recovering after a thief snatched her handbag, as she walked home. The pensioner was walking along Windsor Terrace, in Leadgate, near Consett, when a man approached her and stole her bag, containing cash. The crook made off in a blue car, possibly a Ford Escort. He is described as white, in his mid to late 20s, about 5'11" with blond hair brushed forward.

CRICKET PLAN: Lanchester Cricket Club is seeking planning permission from Derwentside District Council for a storage building and a score box at its ground in Kitswell Road, Lanchester.
SUNDAY WALK: Local historian Donald Miller will lead a six-mile walk, called Two East Durham Monuments, on Sunday. It will start at 2pm next to the bowling green in Haswell Village. The walk costs £2, concessions £1.
SCRUBBERS NEEDED: A church has come up with a novel idea for a fundraising spring clean. St Andrew's in Stanley is holding a sponsored scrub of the church floor on Saturday, May 24, 10am to 1pm.
