A student has been selected to represent his country in an international badminton tournament.
Fifteen-year-old Luke Brudenell, from Northallerton College, is in the England team to play Denmark, Holland, Sweden and Belgium at Wimbledon tomorrow.
The team event will be followed by a two-day international singles tournament.
Luke believes he caught the eye of England's chief scout Justine Wilmott while he was playing doubles at national events.
Ms Wilmott called Luke at his home in Brompton last week to invite him to play in the England team.
"I was really pleased. I have wanted to play at the highest level for some time," he said.
The college's joint head of PE, Alistair Macrae, encouraged Luke to start playing badminton four-and-a-half years ago when he was a pupil at Allertonshire School, in Northallerton.
He has since played for Yorkshire and recently helped them win the ICT Tournament, the biggest of the national competitions involving all 39 English counties.
He spends at least four nights a week training and has paid tribute to his parents for their help and support.
"It is quite expensive playing at this level," he said. "Entry fees for tournaments cost nearly £1,000 a year and then there is petrol and accommodation. My mother has gone back to work to cover the costs."
