DAVROS, the evil genius who created the Daleks, is joining the English Touring Opera when it arrives in the region this month with a double bill of Strauss.
England's largest touring opera company will be performing Die Fledermaus, by Johann Strauss, and Ariadne on Naxos, by Richard Strauss, in Darlington on May 27 and 28.
Both operas are set in turn-of-the-century Vienna where two wealthy aristocrats are throwing extraordinary house parties. Though neither event turns out as expected, there is plenty to celebrate.
For the first time the opera company will be joined by an acting-only star - David Gooderson, who brought the evil Davros to life in Doctor Who.
The English Touring Opera orchestra is led by rising British opera star Richard Farnes and directed by Royal Opera House director Colin Graham.
Ticket prices range from £10.50 to £18.50. Call (01325) 486555 for more information.
