SCHOOLCHILDREN from across the region have helped to smash the world record for a simultaneous sing-a-long.
Youngsters in County Durham helped to break the Guinness record for the largest-ever sing song which involved children from right across the UK.
The record, ratified this week, was set by 83,121 youngsters last December and was led by child star Declan Galbraith. The previous record was 15,500 singers.
The event, staged by concerts organiser Young Voices, raised £42,000 for Sargent Cancer Care for Children.
Pupils from Greenland Junior and Hare Law special school, Stanley, and Leadgate Junior, Consett, took part.
All participating schools will receive a certificate confirming their success in helping to beat the singing world record.
