BRASS bands, choirs and budding young musicians from across the region will come together this weekend, for a popular music festival.
The Consett Music Festival starts in Blackfyne Community School, Consett, this Friday.
The brass band contest is first and will be judged by Eric Jennings, formerly principal trombone in the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.
The contest continues on Friday, May 16, with preliminary classes for a National Junior Competition.
The festival is in its 79th year and is regarded as a platform for talented youngsters.
Last year, two of the young festival winners went forward to compete at national level. Emily Barker is competing in the 2003 Emmanuel Trophy competition for piano in London and Mark Fiddaman in the National Junior Competition for English Song.
