A FERRYHILL postmistress has retired after 45 years service.
Pauline Blackett has stepped down from the role at West End Post Office.
To mark the occasion she was presented with a bouquet of flowers and a crystal town council vase in appreciation of her years of service to the Ferryhill community.
It was Mayor Ken Campbell's last official duty before handing over the chain of office to Doreen Greenwell.
Mrs Blackett thanked the mayor for the town council's support over the years and also paid tribute to all of her many customers.
She wished the Ferryhill Chamber of Trade and the new postmaster, Dave Farry, every success for the future.
Mrs Blackett still lives in the town and is enjoying her retirement, but she said she missed chatting to her customers.
