NEW faces are being urged to step in and take over the organising of two events in the South Bank calendar.
The committee, which co-ordinates the Christmas tree festivities and summer carnivals, is to be disbanded after it fell to only a handful of people to organise last year's events.
George Punshon, who has played an important role in each event during the past eight years, has had to take a secondary role because of ill health.
He said: "I cannot keep devoting my energy to organising these events because of my health.
"It would be sad to see these things come to an end but that is what will happen if new individuals or groups do not come forward to take on the responsibility."
Mr Punshon, who has numerous contacts built up over the years, said he would be happy to pass them to anyone willing to take over the running of the events.
