A NORTH-EAST school that just can not stop winning trophies and awards will fly the flag for the region at a national football competition.
Dunston Hill Community Primary School is to compete against three other schools from the Midlands, the South-East and the South-West, in the grand final of the Football Association's English Schools Under 11 six-a-side competition.
The final of the tournament, which attracts entries from thousands of UK schools, will be held at the Lilleshall National Sports Centre in Shropshire on Saturday, May 17.
Proud headteacher Bill Foreman said: "The team has successfully won their way through four tournaments to reach May's final, and last month, competed in the regional final in West Yorkshire, against primary school teams from the whole of the North of England.
"Against very stiff opposition, the boys remained unbeaten throughout the tournament, and conceded just one goal.
"They triumphed by beating Merseyside's St Monica's Primary School 2-0 in the semi-finals, and Lancashire's Fulford and Cadley Primary School 1-0 in the final."
"We believe that this is the furthest that any of Gateshead council primary schools has ever reached in such a high-ranking national competition."
The team, unbeaten in the Blaydon and District Primary Schools' seven-a-side league, were also recently crowned Durham County Primary Schools' five-a-side Indoor Champions, winning the regional tournament against teams from South Tyneside, Derwentside and Peterlee.
