COUNTRY lovers are preparing for a weekend of sports and entertainment at a North-East castle.

Organisers of the Teesdale Game Fair are predicting that a record crowd of more than 20,000 will turn up at Witton Castle, near Bishop Auckland, tomorrow and Sunday.

The event features top-gun clay shooting with heavy involvement from the British Association for Shooting and Conservation.

Angling is represented for the first time through the Weardale Fly Fishers and Tiers. The main arena has displays by Bill Heslop and his Rossendale Sheepdogs, birds of prey from the Ridgeside Falconry, the Cheshire Dog Display Team and the and the Imps Motorcycle Display Team.

Elsewhere on the showground there will be racing and competitions from the National Terrier and Lurcher Association and the Fell and Moorland Working Terrier Club.

About 30 members of the Durham branch of the Muzzle Loaders Association of Great Britain have two stands, one for small and the other for bigger bore weapons and a display of antique rifles and pistols.

The fair is open from 9am to 6pm. Admission costs £7 for adults and £3 for children and OAPs. Under-fives are free and a family ticket for two adults and up to three children costs £20.
