NORTH-EAST stunt driver Paul Swift has been called in to launch the modern version of classic action movie The Italian Job in New York this weekend.
The Paramount Pictures publicity blitz will be screened live on the Jay Leno Show.
But even Hollywood could not come up with someone who can drive a Mini Cooper through the streets of the Big Apple on two wheels - and that's where Paul, from Darlington, comes in.
"I'm really excited about it," said the former British Auto Test driver, who switched disciplines to go rallying in the Peugeot 206 Super Cup this year, with the backing of dealer Simon Bailes, of Northallerton, North Yorkshire.
"I don't really know who's going to be there but I'm hoping this could be the start of something big.
"The film is being premiered later this month.
"Maybe I'll be invited to that - or perhaps they'll be doing a tour around the States between now and then. I just don't know at the moment."
Paul, 23, is getting the star treatment for the duration of the New York trip, including a suite in The Regency Hotel and a seat at the launch show, attended by all the stars and Paramount's VIP guests.
Paul said: "The Jay Leno Show is huge in America - I think the average audience is about 35 million - so an appearance on national television over there certainly isn't going to do me any harm."
Paul learned the tricks of the trade from father, Russ, and the pair are already regulars on British television, helping with stunts for shows such as Top Gear.
"Dad's really jealous," said Paul. "He wanted to come with me but he's already committed to other events in the UK this weekend so I'll be going on my own."
