RESIDENTS are being given the chance to have their say on the future of a fire-damaged shelter on Hartlepool Headland.
A letter from Hartlepool Borough Council is being delivered to all residents on the Headland asking them what they would like to be done with the Redheugh Shelter.
The structure was built last year following consultation with people living in the area and as part of an improvements scheme to the Headland area, funded by the North Hartlepool Partnership. The aim was to provide sheltered seating, but a few months later the shelter was severely damaged in an arson attack.
Residents are being asked to complete a reply form indicating which of the three options they prefer. They are:
* To rebuild the shelter, using the same materials to restore it to its same appearance before the fire;
* To restore the shelter to its former appearance, but to use steel for the roof rather than wood, to help deter vandals;
* To demolish the shelter and cover the area with sandstone paving.
The closing date for forms is Friday, May 23.
