THE quest to keep the history of one of south-west Dur-ham's mining communities alive continues as former residents are being asked to record their memories.
Witton Park History Group has embarked on a project that aims to gather the spoken memories of former residents who may have generations of stories to tell.
The finished product will eventually be made available in the form of an archive that will be accessible by all.
The group also has a website at www.wittonpark.net which acts as a window to the past for those who wish to take a trip down memory lane.
Dale Daniel, of the group, co-wrote Memories of Paradise, which looks at the village at a time when it was booming.
He said: "Everyone who visits this wonderful site must enjoy looking at the photographs and newspaper cuttings.
"But more are needed to regularly refresh the contents. That old photograph of your grandfather playing in King Street Backs could be viewed worldwide. We are asking people to spend an hour in the attic and email those hidden gems.''
Anyone who would like to contribute to the project or has any photographs or newspaper clippings to add to the website, can contact Mr Daniel on (01388) 606543.
