SIX people were due to appear in court today after two men suffered stab wounds in an incident on board a Metro train.
The incident happened at 11.45pm on Friday as the men - among a group of four Iranians - were travelling to Newcastle from North Shields on a Tyne and Wear Metro train.
Another group of men and women boarded at Wallsend and, as the train approached Walkergate station, two of the Iranians were stabbed.
Their injuries were not life threatening but one of the victims was kept in hospital while the other was released after treatment.
Four men and two women, all from the Newcastle area, were arrested and have been charged with violent disorder.
They will appear before the city's magistrates this morning.
The men have also been bailed for two offences of wounding with intent while inquiries continue.
Detective Inspector Mark Anastasi, of Northumbria Police, said: "A number of arrests have been made and have led to six people being charged. The response from the public has been positive."
He said that inquiries were continuing and urged anyone with information to call officers on 0191-214 6555, extension 62245 or 62226.
