PUPILS at a school in Hartlepool have proved how much they care for their environment by launching a blitz on litter.
The year four children from Fens Primary School suggested tidying up a nearby shopping parade after hearing about a Spring Clean Hartlepool campaign.
Gillian O'Sullivan, a teacher at the school, said: "As a school, we are very committed to good citizenship and a lot of importance is attached to personal, social and health education.
"When we received a letter from the council explaining the Spring Clean Hartlepool campaign, it was the pupils' spontaneous reaction to suggest they carry out the clean-up of the Fens shops. I am so proud of them all.
"We often walk through the shops on our way to the swimming pool at Manor College of Technology and always notice just how much rubbish there is, particularly after lunch."
The pupils, equipped with litter pickers provided by Hartlepool Borough Council, spent half an hour removing rubbish. They were helped by members of the authority's south neighbourhood team.,
