HOUSEHOLDERS and workers were warned last night to keep their windows and doors sealed when thick smoke from a factory fire engulfed their neighbourhood.
More than 40 firefighters battled the blaze at the Cascade engineering plant on the Bassington Industrial estate in Cramlington, Northumberland.
Streets surrounding the estate in Nelson Drive were closed off and the public was warned to stay away.
Four nearby factories - American Air Filters, Cova, Hubway and H&A - will stay closed all day today.
