Following their victory over Darlington RA on Monday in the final of the Sunderland Shipowners' Cup, Wolviston maintained their title prospects defeating Redcar Town 3-0 on Wednesday when Andy Steele (2) and Paul Edwards scored.
They are two points ahead of second-placed Stokesley SC, who were without a mid-week fixture. The clubs have played the same number of games but Stokesley have a better goals ratio by a margin of nine.
Birtley Town are third, six points adrift of Wolviston. They have two games in hand and a much superior goals difference. Their latest success came against Jarrow when goals by Paul Terrell and Chris Feasey earned them three crucial points.
In other mid-week games, Ferryhill Athletic recorded their biggest win of the season, defeating Whitehaven 6-0 but are still destined to finish bottom of the table.
Mark Fanning's men were in top-scoring form and the goals flowed from Lee Jewitt, Stuart Cottam, Darren Stanley, Nicky Sander, Gary Armstrong and Mark Sodermann.
Darlington RA drew 0-0 against North Shields at Ralph Gardner Park and Barnard Castle Glaxo improved their position near the basement with a 2-1 success over Stanley United who took the lead through Steve Hamill. Stuart Murray and Michael Charlton struck for Glaxo.
A tremendous shot from well outside the penalty area by Philip Shakespeare was sufficient for Cleadon SC in their local derby at Harton and Westoe.
