POLICE are investigating a shooting incident in Maple Terrace outside the Newcastle College at 7.30pm on Tuesday.
The people involved left the scene in two cars - a white H-reg Nissan Sunny, believed to have been damaged in the gunfire, and a red VW Golf. A 38-year-old man and 16-year-old have been arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear or harm. Anyone with information is asked to call 0191-214 6555, extension 62344.
TEENAGER STABBED: A teenager was taken to hospital after being stabbed in Burnhope Road, Barmston, Washington, Wearside, at 8pm on Tuesday. He was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital where his was operated on. Anyone with information is asked to call 0191-454 7555, extension 66448.
MILITARY CONVOY: Twenty-four low-loaders carrying military vehicles will be travelling along the A1 and the A696 from Catterick Garrison, in North Yorkshire, this morning. Six of the vehicles will be under police escort because of their abnormal loads.
TIMETABLE CHANGES: Arriva Trains Northern's summer timetable, which comes into effect on Sunday, is available at stations across the region or online at www.arriva.co.uk. The company says it has made minor changes to departure and arrival times to some of its services to take into account the introduction of new Virgin Voyager services on the network. Some additional services are being added to destinations including Scarborough and Bridlington.
CARRY ON: Gateshead radio stations Metro FM and Magic AM's broadcasting licences have automatically been renewed by the Radio Authority for eight years because they also provide digital radio programmes for the Tyne and Wear area.
BARN BLAZE: A barn was damaged after a blaze broke out near Gainford Hall, Gainford, County Durham, yesterday. Firefighters were called to tackle the blaze just after 2.30pm.

MAYOR'S RESHUFFLE: Mayor Ray Mallon has announced a reshuffle of his executive board at Middlesbrough Council. Councillor Nicky Walker will take responsibility for resources after her work regarding finance during the past 12 months. Councillor Mike Carr leaves his job as lead councillor for regeneration and is expected to take over as chairman of the overview and scrutiny panel.
