A blueprint for the future prosperity of Darlington has been published.
Darlington Partnership's community strategy sets out a long-term vision for the town and will be discussed at an assembly in the Dolphin Centre on June 20.
CAR OVERTURNED: A four-mile tailback was caused on the A1 near Newton Aycliffe yesterday after a car overturned near the Bradbury interchange. No one was badly injured.
SKI HOPES: Andrew Richardson, a year 11 student at Greenfield School Community and Arts College, Newton Aycliffe, has been selected for assessment to train as a ski instructor by the British Association of Ski Instructors.
CLEAN TEAM: Staff at the Snax24 BP Garage, in Northgate, Darlington, have been presented with the borough council's Caring for the Environment award, in recognition of their efforts to reduce litter.
GOLD GROUP: Darlington people aged over 50 are invited to find out more about a new group at a meeting on Monday, at 6.30pm, organised by Growing Older Living in Darlington, at Wesley Court Community Centre, off Yarm Road.
CHURCH ROLE: The Bishop of Jarrow has appointed The Reverend Bill Broad, Rector of Great Aycliffe Team Ministry, to be Team Vicar in the Great Aycliffe Team Ministry with responsibility for St Clare's Church and Acting Team Rector of Great Aycliffe Team Ministry, in addition to Priest-in-Charge of Chilton St Aidan from June 1.
POP WINNER: Emma Williams, 15, a pupil at Haughton Community School, Darlington, won £500 at the Northern Stars Pop Talent Contest in Alnwick, Northumberland. Now she has been granted a scholarship to Stagecoach, the performing arts school.
VEGETARIAN WEEK: Darlington College of Technology is celebrating National Vegetarian Week from Monday. Vegetarian dishes will be offered in the college's Oakroom bistro and student centre and the catering department has devised a ten-week vegetarian and healthy eating leisure course. VILLAGE WALK : Chris Scaife, Countryside Rights of Way Officer for Darlington Borough Council, will lead a Brafferton village walk on Sunday, starting at 6pm from the village hall. The Brafferton and Coatham Mundeville Village Hall Association will host a faith supper afterwards. Meet at the village hall, bringing a plate of food to share.
BIG BAND: The Little Big Band is holding a 50/50 ballroom and sequence dance in Spennymoor Town Hall at 8pm tomorrow.
