CHILDREN at an infants school can let off steam with an adventure trail installed at their school.
After months of fundraising, youngsters at Ouston Infant School have even more opportunities to climb, jump, clamber, run and swing, with the development of a wooden adventure trail.
It consists of stepping stones, balance beams, a clamber frame and flexi-bridge, while the remainder of the playground has been sectioned off to allow for other activities. Quiet sitting areas have also been developed in the school, which is near Chester-le-Street.
Various grants were secured for the play equipment and parents and friends of the school have also been busy fundraising over the past year.
The initiative was given a boost with a £700 donation by Durham County Councillor Christine Smith, from the county council's Members Initiative Fund.
Sheila Gallagher, headteacher of the school, said: "The adventure trail has been developed to enhance delivery of the curriculum to all our children, especially those in reception.
"Physical development is a key part of a child's well-being and we wanted to provide a fun, interesting and challenging way of achieving this. The children themselves are very keen to use the new equipment and each of them has their favourite activity."
