ONE of Kirkbymoorside's most colourful characters has been given the market town's most prestigious honour - an eminent citizen award.
Rose Magson, 89, known locally as Aunty Rosie, has been honoured for her community and charity work.
Her efforts for the Royal British Legion's Poppy Day appeal spans nearly 40 years during which she has raised thousands of pounds, and she has five long service awards as a National Savings collector.
She is held in high affection in Kirkbymoorside because of her work in the community, collecting for such charities as Cancer Research and the Soldiers' and Sailors' Children's Appeal.
Rosie, of Shaw Drive, also has a reputation for her baking - chocolate cakes being her speciality - and she regularly helps out on her daughter Shirley's farm, chopping firewood and feeding pet lambs.
