TELEGRAMS, menus and passenger lists are among memorabilia from the RMS Queen Mary's maiden voyage 67 years ago being auctioned next week.
The material collected from the liner's journey from Southampton to New York on Wednesday, May 27, 1936, has already generated a great deal of interest among bidders.
Stamps and postal history specialist Jane Wiltshire, at Tennants Auctioneers in Leyburn, North Yorkshire, said the lot was undoubtedly going to sell for much more than the estimated value of £100 to £125.
"There are many people interested in this lot because of the nature and range of material it includes," she said.
"Those who will be bidding for it include people interested in liners or maiden voyages, anyone who may have been on board the ship and has sentimental reasons, stamp and postcard collectors and any-one interested in transport."
The collection, which also includes stationery, brochures and postcards, was accumulated by a local man who had played in a band on the Cunard White Star cruise liner on its maiden voyage.
The 620-lot sale of books, postcards, cigarette cards and coins will start at 12.30pm, on Tuesday, at the auction centre. Viewing takes place at 4pm on Monday and at noon on the Tuesday.
