STAFF at Arriva Trains Northern are taking part in the company's Dress Daft Day to raise money for charity.
Suits and even some uniforms are being cast aside today for the event in favour of an array of colourful costumes.
It is expected that the event will raise hundreds of pounds for the Railway Children charity which helps destitute youngsters around the world.
A gathering of the costumed characters including a large Womble, rabbit and the Mad Hatter will take place at York railway station this morning.
Staff will be collecting donations from passengers on the platforms.
Commercial director Dyan Crowther, said: "Just £1 will feed a child in India for a whole week so whatever we raise will help."
