THE private life of the commander of a North-East Roman fort will be revealed today.
Re-enactment society Cohors Quinta Gallorum are taking over the recently-constructed Commanding Officer's house at Arbeia Roman Fort, South Shields.
From 1pm to 4pm, visitors will be welcomed by a porter at the door, see a household slave cleaning, watch the commander's wife preparing herself for her guests and meet the commanding officer. Admission is free.
Alex Croom, curator of archaeology at Arbeia, said: "The event will portray all aspects of Roman civilian life."
