A NEW interactive website will give patients the chance to obtain medical information at the click of a mouse.

Darlington Primary Care Trust's (PCT) web pages are to go live within the next few weeks

The site will feature news stories, information on PCT board members as well as PCT minutes and agendas.

Health contact numbers and email addresses will also be featured as well as details of GP surgeries, dentists, clinics and pharmacists, including opening hours.

Users will also be able to register an interest in a particular health field and obtain information sent to them.

An electronic library will include the PCT newsletter, policies and protocols, the annual report and action plans as well as a guide to health services.

Designers are also working on interactive health promotion games for children and there will be a section devoted to the Patient Advisory Liaison Service. The site will link with others including the NHS, British Medical Association and BBC Health News.

Andrea Jones, of the PCT, said: "We will monitor usage to see if it is of benefit to the public and health professionals."

The site will be available at www.darlingtonpct.nhs.uk, or www.darlingtonpct.com in English, Urdu, Cantonese and Bengali.
