ADULT learners have been recognised for their achievements.
Principal and chief executive of Darlington College of Technology, Sarah Farley, presented 11 mature students from the Catterick area with certificates for their commitment, dedication and work on courses ranging from computing to catering. The students studied at either Darlington College at Catterick or at one of the college's community venues in North Yorkshire.
"I know how hard it is to take the step back into learning," said Ms Farley.
"You are all successful students now and have broken the ice. It's up to you to go and tell others, and help them break down the barriers so they can enjoy the benefits of getting back into learning."
The students were Paul Hadden, Naomi Tasker, Anne Coussens, George Graham, John Baty, Annette Holohan, Tim Berney, Nicki Robinson, Nigel Moody, Tom Brown and members of the hospitality group Spindleberry Inns.
Director of Catterick-based Spindleberry Inns Melva Steckles said she was a huge fan of adult learning and was putting all her 85 staff through a variety of courses, from hygiene, health and safety to NVQs in hospitality management and IT.
"I have offered them all the chance to do a course because I believe in education and the College at Catterick is brilliant," said Mrs Steckles.
"Six years ago I took my masters and think people should keep learning. No matter what the course, it can only lead to better things."
