WORK is to start on the construction of the Myton Way link road at Ingleby Barwick today.
The work and associated landscaping will cost £1.5m and includes a network of footpaths, cycleways, bridleways and an underpass.
It is the latest phase of the South Stockton link, which will provide a high quality road between Ingleby Barwick, the A66 and Stockton Town Centre.
"Myton Way will not only provide access for further housing development in the Broom Hill and the Rings area, but will create a direct link from the Ingleby Way roundabout to Queen Elizabeth Way over the River Tees," said Mike Robinson, Stockton council's head of engineering and transportation.
"There will be tremendous benefits to residents of Ingleby Barwick and Thornaby as traffic will be more easily dispersed to areas away from the residential areas."
The council's engineering and transportation division was recently awarded Beacon status for excellence in managing construction projects.
Work is expected to be completed by autumn.
