A FAMILY devastated by the death of a child to cancer are desperate for a holiday.
Sandra Baker, from Mowden, Darlington, lost her son Darren, nine, to a brain tumour in May last year.
Darren's sister Stacey, 13, was awarded The Northern Echo's Positive Young People award last month for the inspirational way she coped with her brother's death.
The family are now hoping to go on holiday to give Stacey a deserved treat, but have been struck by financial difficulties.
Mrs Baker said: "It has been very hard on all of us. A trip away would do us the world of good. It is the first anniversary of Darren's death on May 28 and we are desperate for a break.
"I haven't been able to work since he died and financially it has been very hard.
"Stacey has done very well, she deserves a treat. She has always wanted to go to London so it would be great if we could make it happen."
