THE outgoing Mayor of Darlington performed her last official function last week, before stepping down from the post.
Councillor Doris Jones presented a cheque for £5,000 to the local branch of the Alzheimer's Society - money which came from the mayor's charitable fund for the past year.
Branch secretary Alistair Nattrass accepted the cheque at a ceremony in the town hall.
Coun Jones said: "The Darlington and district branch of the Alzheimer's Society do a wonderful job and their work in helping individuals and families affected is very much appreciated."
Later in the day, Coun Jones formally handed the reins over to the new Mayor, Councillor Ron Lewis.
