OLD Shildon swept the trophy honours with their third cup final victory over Thorns at Spennymoor United's Brewery Field last Sunday.
Shildon comfortably beat them 4-0 after already beating them on penalties in the First Division Cup final - they also claimed the B&A Trophy with a 3-0 win over Brawns Den a fortnight ago.
After what was a close first half, the two sides went into the break at a 0-0 stalemate.
But Shildon upped their game in the second half and two goals by Paul Whensley and one from Thomas Louden pretty much clinched the cup - Whensley completed his and his team's hat-trick with a fourth.
"The lads are delighted!" said Secretary Sharon Hedley. "The first half was very close and I think could have gone either way, but we were well on top in the second half and deserved the win in the end.
"We've been talking about winning cups and to win three this year is fantastic - we're all looking forward to the presentation night!"
It was unlucky Thorns' third cup final defeat of the campaign - they also succumbed to Brawns Den in the Invitation Cup final.
Boss Dave McWaters said: "Very disappointing. I thought up until half-time we did OK, but two quick goals after half-time killed us and our heads went down.
"But it's been a long, hard season and we did well to get to three finals - it was just a shame we couldn't have won one of them. I don't we did ourselves any justice."
The League Cup pretty much wrapped up the season for the Bowman Anderson Accountants Spennymoor Sunday League, with just one more Division Two game - between Brawns Den and Binchester Hotel - remaining.
Newton Aycliffe were crowned the Division One champions last week, with Old Shildon runners-up, while Postchaise nicked the Division Two championship with the last kick of the season, and Horndale coming second.
The cup honours were as follows:
Division Two Cup: Winners - Brawns Den; runners-up - Horndale.
Division One Cup: Winners - Old Shildon; runners-up - Thorns.
Invitation Cup: Winners - Brawns Den; runners-up - Thorns.
B&A Trophy: Winners - Old Shildon; runners-up - Brawns Den.
League Cup: Winners - Old Shildon; runners-up - Thorns.
* The league's end-of-season presentation night will be held at Old Shildon WMC on Friday June 6, when local band 'Buster' will form part of the night's entertainment as well as all the usual awards.
RESULTS ROUND-UP, Sunday May 11, League Cup Final: Old Shildon 4, Thorns 0.
Thursday May 8, Division Two: Postchaise 6, Brawns Den 1.
