VOLUNTEERS have been doing their bit to make life more pleasant in Northallerton.
A team of volunteers from New Life Baptist Church took part in a day-long litter-pick around the town.
It followed concern being expressed about the amount of litter on roadsides on the approaches to the town.
The coordinator of the initiative, Andy Bayston, said the volunteers had showed very willing, and more than 20 bags of rubbish were collected.
The litter-pick was part of the build-up to the Event in the Tent to be held on the Bullamoor park from Tuesday next week to the following Sunday.
The event will be one of the most ambitious initiatives ever undertaken by the church, with a wide range of activities.
Miniature Heroes will be a children's holiday club every morning from 10am to noon and on afternoons during the week various events are planned.
They include Hymns in the Park on the Tuesday, at 12.30pm, and a car display, Men and Motors, on the Wednesday at 2pm.
On Thursday, at 2pm, there will be a session for women on the theme of Health And Beauty From The Inside Out, and every evening there will be lively meetings with music, dance and drama. Admission will be free.
The Reverend Rodney Breckon said: "We want to show that being a Christian is fun, and that God cares about the things that matter to us, whether good or bad."
A leaflet carrying details is being dropped through every door in the town this week.
In addition, information can be obtained from the church office on (01609) 775396.
