ELDERLY residents learned how to safeguard themselves against falls at an open day this week.
The event was staged by community members at Primrose Court Sheltered Housing Complex, Blackhall, to highlight the risk of falling among over 65s.
Residents were invited to hear advice from chiropodists, physiotherapists, practice nurses, Age Concern, carers, and council representatives.
The event also included displays, refreshments, and giveaways.
The Blackhall team, made up of volunteers, is one of five in the Easington area established as part of a new Healthy Communities Collaborative programme, managed by Easington Primary Care Trust.
In its first six months, falls have been reduced by 34 per cent across five County Durham villages.
