A TEENAGE dancing duo from the North-East have won an international competition.
Joanne Pearson, 14, of Darlington, and her dancing partner Adam Duffie, 14, of Gateshead, won the Junior British Classical Sequence and Modern Sequence Championships in Blackpool.
It is six years since a Northern couple have won the championship.
Joanne, a pupil of Carmel School, Darlington, teamed up with Adam three years ago and each week they regularly travel down to Barnsley for tuition from Tony and Denise Dyer, previous ballroom champions.
They also attend lessons with Ann Applegarth, who has a dancing school in County Durham.
Adam's mum, Lynda Duffie, said: "They were up against couples from all over the world.
"We all know what Billy Elliott did for ballet dancing - I think Adam would love to think he could do the same for classical and modern sequence dancing."
