PRIMARY school youngsters are hoping to continue their winning streak as they head for a national swimming contest.
The four girls from St Wilfrid's Primary School in Bishop Auckland swam to victory in the Northern Divisional Championships and will now travel to Ponds Forge Leisure Centre in Sheffield to represent the North in the Bazuka English Primary Schools' National Swimming Championships.
Olivia Gabriele, 11; Rachel Howard, Faye Callan, both ten, and Anna Tervit, nine, are also members of the Wear Valley Swimming Club where they do most of their practice. They came first in the mixed relay event at the Neptune Centre in Middlesbrough and finished second in the freestyle relay which secured their place in the finals on June 21.
Olivia and Faye are both carrying on family tradition after both their brothers competed in the same event in 2001.
Their teacher Suzanne Graham said: "We are really proud of how well they have done.
"They have worked hard at the club and the school hope they do really well in the finals and have a lot of fun as well.''
