THERE is a familiar ring to the new leadership on Richmondshire District Council, following the authority's annual meeting on Tuesday night.
Scorton Conservative Councillor Michael Heseltine faced competition for the post of chairman from Richmond Liberal Democrat Councillor Clive World.
And, when members were asked to vote for a new leader, Hawes' Tory Councillor John Blackie was informed of a last-minute contest with Richmond's Councillor John Harris, who now leads the Liberal Democrat group on the council.
But, after ballots for the positions, the Conservatives took both, returning two councillors to positions they have held in the past.
Coun Heseltine was chairman of the Richmondshire authority in the 2000 to 2001 municipal year, while Councillor Blackie has been leader of the council for the past four years.
"I think my election shows the council's commitment to recycling," joked Coun Heseltine.
