A PHYSICS teacher has been presented with an award for his outstanding work.
Dr David Dodds, head of physics at Stockton Sixth Form College, was presented with the Institute of Physics 2003 Teachers Award at a ceremony in London.
Dr Dodds is the only teacher in the region to be selected for the award this time around.
He received his award from Mike Tomlinson, chairman of the Government's working group on education for 14-19-year-olds, and former chief inspector of schools in England.
Dr Dodds was nominated for the award by the college's former principal Howard Clarke, who highlighted the teacher's success during the past few years, particularly with students who previously had poor grades.
Dr Dodds said: "Physics drives the modern world and underpins modern technology, and I just can't imagine a better subject to teach."
Martin Clinton, the new principal of the college, said: "Dr Dodds has taught at Stockton Sixth Form College since the 1980s and has made a huge contribution to the college and to his subject over the years.
"Staff and students alike, past and present, have been inspired by his efforts and his dedication to his subject. He commands tremendous respect for what he does."
