THE Richmond branch of the Royal British Legion will be among the first to hold a service to pay tribute to servicemen and women who fought and died in the recent war with Iraq.
The town's Friary Gardens will host the open-air ceremony next Thursday, to be led by Canon Richard Cooper, from nearby St Mary's Church.
Starting at 11.30am, the service will include a two-minute silence in memory of those who lost their lives, preceded by the Last Post. Hymns and prayers are also planned.
"We are aware there is to be a national service but we felt we wanted to do something ourselves," said branch spokesman David Johnson.
"Everyone is welcome to attend and we hope to see as many people as possible."
