DEMANDS for more bobbies on the beat have been answered in Richmondshire where three new beat officers have joined the ranks of the local force.
The recruits' role will be to forge links with local communities, working with parish councils, schools and other organisations, and to act as a first point of contact in the event of any crime - matching the objectives of a three-year Crime and Disorder Strategy, put together by the Richmondshire Community Safety Partnership.
"We're confident the presence of beat officers in local towns and villages will reassure residents that measures are being taken to make them feel safer," said Sergeant Richard O'Neil.
"As well as highlighting the community safety strategy and addressing anti-social behaviour and low-level crime, we hope, in the long-term, they will become recognisable to the communities they serve and be a first point of contact for residents."
Two more beat officers will be added to the team later this year, alongside three community support officers, who will be assisting the police in tackling anti-social behaviour.
