LUMLEY Ladies FC ended a promising debut season with the first final appearance for any of the club's teams, in the Tyne Tees League Challenge Cup for under-13s.
The Lumley girls went down 6-2 in a brave display against the unbeaten league leaders Boldon CA Girls, who achieved 'the double' at under-13 level.
Both teams overcame blustery conditions to put on a fitting finale at Seaton Carew.
Chloe Bailey was in inspired form in the Lumley goal during the opening stages, denying Boldon with a series of acrobatic saves.
Lumley took a surprise lead when Kristina Minto rifled home a loose ball in the Boldon box at the quarter-hour.
But Boldon built a 4-1 lead with the aid of three deflected goals, before Kristina Minto gave Lumley a glimmer of hope with her second strike.
Boldon added two late goals, including one from Michaela Carter, who just edged out Chloe Bailey for the Player of the Match award.
* The club, formed in May 2002 with 20 players, grew rapidly and fielded teams at under-10, 12, 13, 14, and 18 level during the season.
