RICHMOND may have been well known for its friars in the Middle Ages - but a 21st Century version has been making a mark on the town.
Bev Partridge runs Castle Fisheries and has scooped a top award within eight weeks of opening the newest fish and chip shop in the Market Place.
The Seafish Friars Quality Award is only presented to businesses which meet exacting standards throughout - and Castle Fisheries won recognition for not just its food but high levels of hygiene and friendly staff.
"The inspection is very thorough indeed, covering all aspects of the business,'' said Seafish Quality Assurance advisor Jim Hyam.
"Customers who see the friers' quality award symbol in the local fish and chip shop can be assured everything has been checked - even behind the scenes.
"Only fish and chip shops which meet our requirements will get the award, but I'm pleased to say Castle Fisheries demonstrated very high standards and, of course, great fish and chips.''
Ms Partridge described the accolade as fantastic news.
She said: "It is great to have won an award so soon, especially as we only run on a staff of two at the moment. The high-tech range we have had installed keeps queues to a minimum and certainly helps make our lives easier."
