AN e-fit description of a bogus caller who preyed upon two elderly ladies this week has been released by police.
Two men escaped with a quantity of money after conning their way in to the homes of their victims by claiming to be water board officials.
Both women live in Tow Law, near Bishop Auckland, and police have renewed their appeal for witnesses who may have seen the two men in the area on Tuesday, between 2pm and 3pm.
Detective Constable Marco Fantin said: "Both ladies have given a very good description of one of the men, who has fair hair and this is seen in the e-fit.
"We believe that the men have been on foot at some time.
"We would like to hear from anyone who may have seen them wandering around or can link them to a vehicle.''
The two men are both described as white, aged between 20 and 30 years old and were wearing green jackets.
One man was said to be between 5ft 8in and 6ft. He had dark hair and was of a big build.
The other was smaller in size and build and had fair hair.
Det Con Fantin also asked people to be more vigilant and said that visitors claiming to be officials will always have identification.
Witnesses are asked to contact Det Con Fantin at Crook police, on (01388) 762011.
