YOUNGSTERS from schools across Hartlepool had the chance to take part in a number of different science experiments at a taster event.
A group of students from each of Hartlepool's six secondary schools took part in the event at the University of Durham Queens Campus, in Stockton.
They spent the day working in the university's laboratories and taking part in a range of experiments.
The event was organised by Hartlepool Borough Council's education department and the University of Durham.
It was part of the Excellence in Cities Gifted and Talented initiative, which encourages young people to study science at university.
Karen Adams, project co-ordinator with Hartlepool Education Department, said: "The taster day gave our young students a great opportunity to experience the magic of science in a real university environment.
"There is a need for more young people to study science subjects at university and hopefully events such as these will help fire their imaginations and encourage them to do so."
