A YOUNG athlete from Richmond won a county cup in his first race at 1500 metres.
Jason Flannery, aged 14, scuppered the opposition to take the under-15s Yorkshire County AAA championship trophy at the Don Valley stadium, Sheffield.
The Richmond and Zetland Harriers member's victory on May 10 was just one of a string of sporting successes.
Jason, a student at Wensleydale School, Leyburn, helped the school win the county football cup this season.
On Sunday, his Richmond Juniors team won the Cleveland Challenge football competition at Middlesbrough when he scored a hat-trick in the final.
Jason, of Bridge Terrace, began taking his sport particularly seriously about six months ago, winning his first ever track race in the 800m.
He has his area colours for track and cross-country running and his next competition is the AAA, again at Don Valley.
He has also been nominated for the Richmondshire district council young sports person awards.
