A CHESTER-LE-STREET couple is appealing for help in tracing their pet parrot.
Jasper, a five-year-old African grey, flew off on Wednesday, May 14, from a garden in Embleton Drive.
Owner Bob Barrett said: "He was sitting on my shoulder and there was a bang at the top of the street - it sounded like someone had dropped something heavy _- and it set him away."
Mr Barrett and wife Vera have been trying to track down their beloved pet, so far without success.
Mrs Barrett said: "Jasper is a very nervous bird. We are very upset. All we can do is look out for him.
"I have been round the estate and put leaflets through doors. I have put a notice in Iceland, where I work, offering a reward.
"Even if someone else has got him if they could just let us know he is alright."
Jasper is light grey with a black beak and red tail. Anyone with information should call the Barretts on (0191) 388 5205 or the police on (0191) 388 4311.
