THE 50th Tan Hill sheep show goes ahead on Thursday after being postponed twice.
The event, at the Tan Hill pub, in Arkengarthdale, was cancelled in 2001 because of foot-and-mouth disease and again last year because restrictions were still in force.
The organisers, keen to mark the show's half century, opted to go ahead this year in spite of diminished entries, the result, in part, of the continuing six-day animal movement rule.
Raymond Calvert, show secretary, said 41 exhibitors had entered the 35 classes, compared with 61 at the last show, in 2000.
"However, it is still a good entry and it is good to see the show back again," he said.
Photographs of past shows are being collected for an exhibition to be staged on the showground as part of this year's event.
Judging begins at noon.
