A TEENAGER was seriously ill in hospital last night after falling at least 35ft from a multi-storey building.
The 19-year-old, who has not been named, was found semi-conscious on the pavement by a passer-by after falling from the car park area of Stonebow House, in the centre of York.
The teenager suffered multiple injuries, including a fractured skull, internal injuries and compound fractures to his wrists. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
The building is known to be a night-time haunt of youths, who climb on the car-park walls and jump on to the roofs of bus shelters below.
Sergeant Colin Ventress, of York police, said there was no suggestion the injured man had been involved in any such activity.
The manager of the nearby Fibbers music venue, Tim Hornsby, said staff had in the past warned youths who jumped from the car park that they could be injured.
He said the building was dangerous, with groups of youths gathering at night and running amok in the deserted car park levels.
He said: "There are kids up there all the time. There does not seem to be anything done to stop them."
Sgt Ventress said the fall was not being treated as suspicious.
He was not aware of any complaints of youths jumping from the building in the past few months.
He said officers were appealing for witnesses to the incident.
