A PITMAN's daughter and a former soldier have celebrated 60 years of marriage.
Leonard and Mary Greenslade, of Hollyhill Gardens West, South Stanley, met at a dance at Annfield Plain.
Mrs Greenslade was born in New Kyo. Mr Greenslade, originally from Somerset, met his wife while he was on a one-year posting to Stanley with the Royal Field Artillery. The couple fell in love and married in Harelaw register office in 1943. Shortly afterwards, Mr Greenslade was posted abroad and did not return until the end of the Second World War.
The couple settled in Stanley and had four children - three girls and a boy.
They celebrated their anniversary recently, with a small party for close family at their home.
