A VILLAGE will soon be able to boast some innovative road signs thanks to the artistic talents of its children.

Pupils from Middleton Tyas Primary School were challenged to produce pictures or slogans to encourage drivers to reduce speed.

Their designs have been chosen by North Yorkshire County Council and added to plaques to be mounted beneath the 20mph signs to go up outside the school gates.

The children whose work will be included are nine-year-old Natalie Hunt, James Probert, four, Christopher McMullon, ten, five-year-old Joshua Metcalfe, 11-year-old Timothy Bray and Imogen Clarke, also 11.

All of them received gift vouchers as prizes as well as miniatures of their work, presented by county councillor Michael Heseltine and the authority's road safety officer, Alison Butterfield.
